are you still in Kara? (I've been reading your blog from the beginning, but haven't made it far yet) I lived in Kara for a bit of time, if you're wanting the company of some other Ex-Pats (sometimes you need it!), go to the S.I.L. ummm... it's past Tomde, The Friesen Family lives there and there are many others in and out using the facilities... ALSO there's a LIBRARY!!!!!!! I worked my way thru a chunk of it while I was there. Tell them that Lesley sent you :)

Aaron in Africa! Great Blog!
I've enjoyed reading it and watching the vids. My wife and I recently started a small company designed to give profits to charities working in Africa. We recently sourced out some shea butter from Togo. If you have some time (realizing you have a busy schedule) email me. Hey Aaron, my father was Peace Corps director in Togo from 1981-1983, when I was a kid. I lived there from age 7-9. I am so excited to have found your blog! I'm going to get to reading now....P.S. Have you read George Packer's book, The Village of Waiting? It's about his experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Togo. He now writes for the New Yorker about Iraq.

Great blog and its cool that it was featured on Blogger's home page. I hope this doesn't overload your internet connection. I just left Togo after 5 years in Tabligbo (and 8 years in Benin before that). I knew and appreciated several Peace Corps workers in both countries. So you're in Sokode? We had several pieces of nice furniture made at the Der Moderne Scribner (?sp) menusierie across from the Total station on the north side of town. Your video made me homesick Thanks for sharing.vg

i went to the university of michigan which is where jfk created the peace corps (or so the legend goes). there is a little bronze circle thing on the steps of the student union commemorating the event.
anyway, george bush (sr., not the current punk in office) was there to give a speech on the 25th anniversary (1985? 1986?) and the guy next to me in the crowd just stood there the whole time giving bush the finger. i don't remember a thing that george said but that guy's finger has stuck with me (figuratively, i mean) ever since.

I drove through Togo from Benin to get to Ghana last fall. I spend 2 months there. I loved it and I watched your clip and it brought back very fond memories. I miss it, take it all in before you know it you'll be missing it too.
It's amazing how living in another country, especially one that's very different, can broaden your persective on life and humanity. I'm originally African (Egyptian to be precise) and grew up in the USA, but a year ago I moved to Panama, to a small town in the mountains. I didn't come here for public service, but I do want to find a way to contribute something meaningful here. I started a blog just recently, it's StepToLife.com. Feel free to check it out.

We gave out 3,000 bed kits to very needy children. It was an amazing experience. I was wondering if you could tell me how much a used bike costs in Togo.
